In a long-awaited new release, the Skype for Business Mac client is now available for download in Australia. The new client will see Apple Mac users upgrade from the former Lync Mac client 2011 and experience Skype for Business in a similar way to that offered on the Windows client.
The Skype for Business Mac client allows customers to convert to new software that has been built specifically for the Mac platform to deliver the best possible experience for users. The Mac client features full video, content sharing and viewing, and one click to join meetings capabilities.
This is exciting news for Apple Mac users as it’s the first time Microsoft has introduced an option for another platform that offers the full range of features.
Microsoft says they’ve also updated the Skype Operations Framework (SOF) assets to help customers plan, deliver and operate the new Mac client.
There have also been Skype for Business enhancements for mobile that will benefit both iOS and Android users, including being able to present PowerPoint files in a meeting. Once shared, PowerPoint files are available in the meeting’s content bin for participants to download or present. This avoids the need to email files or links back and forth between meeting participants who are joining via mobile.
For mobile users, Microsoft has also refreshed content viewing with Video-based Screen Sharing (VbSS) so that initial setup is much faster, it’s more reliable and consumes network bandwidth more efficiently.
